SWIM LESSON LEVEL GUIDE

Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills: Students will learn how to feel comfortable in the water and safely enjoy it.

Level 2: Fundamentals of Aquatic Skills: Children will learn basic swimming skills.

Level 3: Stroke Development: Additional guided practice will help students improve their skills.

Level 4: Stroke Improvement: Kids will gain confidence during swim lessons, improve their stroke and gain additional aquatic skills.

Level 5: Stroke Refinement: Guidance allows kids to refine their strokes and become more efficient swimmers.

Level 6: Swimming and Skill Proficiency: Students will learn to swim with ease and efficiency, and gain the ability to swim smoothly over greater distances. Swimmers will also have the option to participate in more advanced courses.

Choose Level 1 if your child is NOT able to do these:
1. Enter water independently, bob 3x willingly and exit water independently
2. Glide on front with support at least two body lengths, roll to back, float for 3 seconds, and recover to a vertical position with support
Choose Level 2 if your child is NOT able to do all of these:
1. Without support from the instructor, step from side into chest-deep water, move into a front float for 5 seconds, roll to back, float for 5 seconds, and return to a standing position
2. Without support from the instructor, move into a back float for 5 seconds, roll to front float, and recover to a vertical standing position
3. Without support from the instructor, push off and swim using combined arm and leg actions on front for 5 body lengths, roll to back, float for 15 seconds, and continue swimming for 5 body lengths

Choose Level 3 if your child is NOT able to do all of these but can do the Level 2 skills above:
1. Jump into deep water from the side, swim freestyle (front crawl) for 15 yards, maintain position by treading water or floating for 30 seconds and swim elementary backstroke for 15 yards

Choose Level 4 if your child is NOT able to do all of these but can do the Level 3 skills above:
1. Perform a feet-first entry into deep water, swim freestyle (front crawl) for 25 yards, change direction and position to swim 25 yards using the elementary backstroke
2. Swim breaststroke for 15 yards, change direction and swim backstroke for 15 yards

Choose Level 5 if your child is NOT able to do all of these but can do the Level 4 skills above:
1. Perform a feet-first entry into deep water, swim freestyle (front crawl) for 50 yards, change direction and position to swim 50 yards using the elementary backstroke
2. Swim breaststroke for 25 yards, change direction and swim backstroke for 25 yards

Choose Level 6 if your child is NOT able to do all of these but can do the Level 5 skills above:
1. Swim 500 yards continuously using any 3 strokes of choice, swimming at least 50 yards of each stroke.
