Be an instructor or volunteer

Thank you for your interest in serving!

Whether you're volunteering at a special event, assisting with programs, or teaching classes as an independent instructor, you play an important role in creating safe, welcoming experiences for our participants.

Before working with participants, all volunteers and independent instructors must complete the approval process below.

Volunteer & Independent Instructor Approval Process

Step 1: Complete Your Application 📲 Here

Submit your Volunteer or Independent Instructor application.

Step 2: Complete Your FREE Secure Volunteer Background Screening 📲 Here

To help provide a safe environment for every participant, all volunteers and independent instructors must successfully complete a Secure Volunteer background screening.

🚨Important Information

  • Background screenings are required annually.

  • Please allow approximately two weeks for processing.

  • Submit your screening well before your program or volunteer assignment begins.

Under Beaufort County Parks & Recreation's Volunteer Screening and Identification Policy, every volunteer and independent instructor who works directly with participants must successfully complete a comprehensive background screening.

Step 3: Once your background screening has been approved, you'll receive a Secure Volunteer digital identification badge.

This badge serves as verification that you've completed the required screening process and may be requested by Parks & Recreation staff while you're volunteering or instructing programs.

Independent Instructors

Independent instructors provide a wide variety of recreational opportunities for our community, including fitness, wellness, dance, martial arts, arts and crafts, educational programs, enrichment classes, and more.

Completing the approval process allows you to begin teaching your approved programs through Beaufort County Parks & Recreation.

If you haven't yet submitted a class proposal, please visit our Become an Independent Instructor page for information on offering a program.
